Spam and Mcdonalds…..
Found out this morning that Mcdonald’s free wifi service blocks out forbez.net (at least here in Canada). I wonder where else my domain is forbidden? And how does Mcdonald’s decide what sites to block out? Forbez.net is relatively new and, to my knowledge, never hosted anything over PG-13. Do they just block out sites they’ve never heard of?
On a semi-unrelated note, some of you who have posted comments here probably noticed that they need to be approved first(once they are approved all future comments by the same poster are approved automatically).
I do this because the site is bombarded by visiting spam-bots and not one day goes by where my inbox isn’t infiltrated by annoying posts like:
“I am so bailey button triplet on sale glad this particular internet classic tall ugg boots clearance factor works and your post truly solved the problem. Usually takes a person up on that home help a person….”
“You have showed great perseverance behind the blog. It’s been enriched since the beginning. I love to share to with my friends. Carry on. my site is on **********”
“Hey there just wanted to provide you with a quick manages. ugg boots from china The text inside your post appear to be operating from discount bailey button ugg boots the display within Internet explorer. Lol, yeah spam comments are always easy to tell because they often start with random meaningless compliments.
Activate the akismet plugin and it’ll take care of most of ‘em, it requires an activation key bu t it’s free
I originally balked at akismet when I quickly browsed the api site a while back and it asked which paid plan I wanted to use. Cheapskate that I am, I got out of there fast and never looked back until I read your post.
SoI went back and actually looked at the subscription plans carefully. Sure enough, there was an option to pay *nothing* for the API key. Yay!
Thanks for mentioning that!
Yeah back in the day the akismet key could be obtained by signing up to a wordpress.com blog (Maybe that still works). Their site does look disturbingly corporate nowadays but they’re still free for the little guy.
Also the few spam that do get through you can nuke in the knowledge that it will go into the akismet blacklist and make life harder for the spammer all over the intarwebs
